Students should work part-time

06/12/2021 12:36:07

It is true that, with the economic and social development, the number of students who work part-time during school time is increasing remarkably. As a result, it has become one of the most controversial issues among students. Some hold the view that students can face certain challenges with a part-time job. Meanwhile, others argue that working part-time can bring students some benefits. Personally, I am strongly convinced that students should work part-time for three reasons that I’m going to explain in the following essay.

In general, those people who stand for the idea that students should not work part-time usually claim that students should save time for their lessons and exercises rather than work part-time. Furthermore, they need to maintain a good health for their study, and it may risk their life while working in an insecure environment. Though they seem to make a point in their argument, it turns out to be more convincing that the benefits students get when doing part-time job outweigh the risks.

First of all, it is commonly believed that students can get more practical experiences for their future business. In fact, formal training at colleges or universities only provides students with a basic background. In this case, it is no doubt that working part-time seems to be more helpful as it  helps students learn more about responsibilities as well as real business challenges, which reinforces what they are learning in school. For instance, some studies show that undergraduates working part-time are more confident than the others when they start a job after graduation. In other words, the more experiences students gain during school time, the more benefits they will get in their future business.

Another important point is that, thanks to a part-time job, students can earn some money to spend on daily expense.  In evidence of this, a college or university student often spend at least three years finishing their study syllabus, which substantially triggers a big debt. Therefore, it is essential that students work part time to reduce the debt. In fact, there has been an increase in the number of students leaving college or university because they don’t have enough money to pay for training fee in recent years. In addition, it is evident that it is hard to earn money in most situations, so earning money during school years also teaches students to understand true values of money.

Last but not least, it can be argued that, working part-time can actually encourages students to improve time management skills which are difficult to develop without activities outside the colleges or universities. In details, it will help students to show how that they are capable of keeping a balance between their study and their work, and ensure that they spend enough time on their academic commitments such as homework or exercise assignments. As a result, their time management skills will be developed.

All in all, it is clearly evident that students can gain several benefits from working part-time. Apart from getting more practical experiences and earning money to spend on their tuition as well as daily expense, they can properly develop their time management skills, which, hopefully, prepare them for a good future.
